Newport is a young suburb on old ground. The Newport Waterways estate began in the late 1970s, its first canals took water in 1979, and the suburb itself was only gazetted in 2008 out of parts of Scarborough and Kippa-Ring.
At the last census, 5,964 people lived here across 2,107 dwellings, and 93.6 per cent were separate houses, most of them large and many facing the water. Big detached homes on canal blocks are our bread and butter.
Almost every street sits on low acid sulfate soil with tidal canals on several sides, so the water table sits within reach of any trench we dig.
Canal-front walls cop salt-laden air off the water all year, and it eats tap bodies, tank casings and any pipe clips out in the weather faster than a dry-land suburb ever would.
The newer western stage went up quickly in volume, and its braided hoses, plastic shut-off valves and thin-walled fittings are now old enough to weep or split without warning.
With the first stage dating to the late 1970s, most original storage tanks have already been replaced once, and those second units are now ageing as well.

Everything Plumbing Newport does falls into four groups, each of which breaks its jobs down further:
Burst flexi hoses behind toilets, tanks that let go, storm surge pushing back through the gully traps on low lots: our emergency plumbing page covers the first five minutes and what we do on arrival. Read about emergency plumbing.
From taps and toilets through to full bathroom and kitchen fit-offs, gas work and hidden leaks, the general plumbing overview sets out what is covered and when you would call. Most of what we do day to day in this estate falls under general plumbing.
Fine coastal sand works into cracked joints and settles into gritty plugs, and reclaimed fill under the eastern streets moves under drains laid across it. See drainage for how we diagnose that here.
Big canal houses with big families work storage tanks hard, so replacements here age faster than the calendar suggests. Cooler months are when the older tanks tend to give up, and the hot water page weighs repair against replacement.

Under storm tide mapping by the council, sections of Coolum Parade and Aqua Street, along with Aegean Avenue and Griffith Road, sit in medium and high inundation zones, while almost the entire estate counts as a coastal planning area.
The classic local plumbing event is a summer storm landing on top of a high tide. Outlets near the canals cannot discharge, water pushes back through yard drains and gully traps on the low lots, and laundries and garages cop the rest.
The overland flow paths sit along Sunnyside Road and Endeavour Esplanade and down Newport Drive, and when the tide is high the canal outlets cannot take the discharge. Average annual rainfall here runs at 1,131 mm, and little of it arrives gently.
The council notes its storm tide mapping predates the 2016 planning scheme and may not catch recent filling, so it sends owners to its Flood Viewer to check current ground levels.

The public network on the peninsula, its sewer and its mains, is maintained by Unitywater. Everything past the connection, from the meter to the tap, is yours to maintain.
That split matters in this estate because the run from the meter often crosses low, wet ground that shifts and settles. Knowing where responsibility starts saves an argument later.
A blockage near the main is the utility's call. A blockage under your lawn is ours.

These are the jobs that fill a normal week here:

Every job in Newport comes with $0 call-out fees, and there's no extra charge for nights, weekends or public holidays.
Our Fix-It-or-It's-Free guarantee stands behind the work (T&Cs apply), and if we're late, $100 comes off your bill.
Every job is done by a licensed plumber under QBCC No: 15024607, and our labour carries a lifetime labour warranty.
A locally owned and operated business, licensed and insured, with flat-rate pricing.
Those four points hold on every job we run here, from a washer swap to a full drain rebuild.

Every quote is built the same way. We look at what the job is, what it takes to get at it, and what the parts cost, then the figure goes on paper before a single tool comes out.
Getting to a pipe under a low canal-side yard where the trench fills with tidal seepage is a different job to the same repair on a high, dry block.
Acid sulfate soil and settling fill mean some jobs need more care, and that goes into the quote up front rather than being discovered halfway through.
What the repair needs, from a washer to a full tank, is listed before we start so nothing surprises you at the end.
Sometimes a repair buys years and sometimes it only buys months, so we say which before you approve anything.
The regular run. We work the northern Redcliffe peninsula and the streets feeding into it, covering Plumber Deception Bay, Plumber Scarborough, Plumber Redcliffe, Plumber Kippa-Ring and Plumber Rothwell, with Newport at the middle of it.
The roads that connect it. Griffith Road, Ashmole Road and Boardman Road carry us out to all of them most weeks.
Written per suburb. Each of those pages sets out how we work that suburb, drawn from that suburb's own conditions rather than this one.

You get flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees before anything is touched. Approve it and we get started.

Before we dig anywhere in this estate we expect a high water table and acidic, salty ground, so the kit on the van is set up for wet trenches.

Pay by card or EFTPOS on site at the end, or ask about Fix now, pay later.
Yes, canal-front homes make up a big share of our run, so we plan every job around salt-laden air, groundwater sitting near the surface and the storm tide overlay that touches streets like Coolum Parade.
Unitywater looks after the water main and the meter out at the boundary, while every pipe on your side of that connection, including the run under your yard, belongs to you.
We work same-day where we can, so call (07) 3067 4289 as soon as you notice a problem and we will aim to get a plumber out to you before the day ends.
Yes, the full price is written down and agreed before any tool comes out of the van, and the figure you approve on the day is the figure that appears on your card statement.
You can settle on the spot with card or EFTPOS once the work is signed off, which suits most households here because there is nothing left to post or chase afterwards.
Call (07) 3067 4289, tell the person who answers what is going on and where it is happening, and we will lock in a time and put the price in writing before we begin.
